On Aug. 6, The Gospel Coalition posted a video interview of Tim and Kathy Keller discussing “Marriage in the Age of Apocalyptic Romance.” TGC introduced the video:
In this interview recorded after their TGCW12 session on Marriage in Gospel Focus, the Kellers discuss these strange times. According to Ernest Becker, writing in The Denial of Death, we live in an age of apocalyptic romance. We’ve removed God and his design for marriage and replaced him with unbearable expectations for transcendent relationships. So how do these new definitions and demands affect our search for a compatible mate?
Watch the video to hear what the Kellers have to say.

Very interesting thoughts, I appreciated the message though the couples communication style was not very exciting.
Liked what they had to say too!
I especially liked how they pointed out that a marriage has to be about something, some kind of mission. And I also liked what they said about healing after a work/love disappointment, about taking time to heal, accepting that you’ll feel bad for a wee while, and also about needing to come to a place where you truly accept that you don’t need to have that thing to be happy, if you have Christ.
As an aside: the best book I’ve ever read on marriage, by a very long way is “Married for God” by Christopher Ash. It’s basically a simplified version of this more thorough (but excellent!) paper he wrote on Christianity and Sexuality, also on the Gospel Coalition Website: http://tgc-documents.s3.amazonaws.com/cci/Ash.pdf
I think the best bit is how he highlights that marriage & singleness are ultimately about the bigger picture of aligning oneself with God’s plan for the world, and each group do that in unique ways!
I truly appreciate the truths communicated in the video. It is helpful to both singles and married couples alike.
are you stupid???
I want God in everything or forget it.
