What song or hymn most stirs you to worship God?

    The Doxology:
    Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
    Praise him, all creatures here below;
    Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
    Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

    “He Reigns” by the Newsboys. It’s the only Christian song that’s ever moved me to tears. The most touching thing, to me, about Christianity is the sense of a huge, worldwide family, and the idea of everyone belonging. This song captures the deep, deep joy of that Biblical concept, and I sing it like a prayer of thanksgiving.

    Oh, there are several… but one of my favourites is definitely Kathryn Scott’s “Hungry.” It reminds me that satisfaction, rest, and renewal are found in God alone.

    “Shout to the Lord” and “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” (choral arrangement by Mack Wilberg) are two that mean a lot to me and repeatedly move my heart toward God.

    Oh boy… there are a few. “Peace like a river” and “Battle hymn of the Republic” are often hard for me to sing because I choke up. “In Christ alone” is also amazing to me. More contemporary is Mercy Me’s “Home sick”. It so greatly captures that feeling of longing to see Jesus face to face and finally “go home”.

    “Be Thou My Vision” is my favorite hymn, my favorite contemporary song is “Forever Reign”. I have been listening to Hillsongs live version of “Forever Reign” as part of my devotion time.

    “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” is one of my favorites. The line “Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been
    granted in what He ordaineth?” has proved true time and again in my life.

    Chris Anderson’s “His Robes for Mine” is another favorite.

    It is a rich meditation on the doctrine of justification.

    Jesus loves me this I know,
    For the Bible tells me so;
    Little ones to Him belong,
    They are weak but He is strong! :D

    @AbigailPeard – RE: ‘He Reigns’: I have to agree with you there. It is the only praise and worship song that makes me want to cry every time I hear it.

    I like a lot already mentioned. For hymns, “How Great Thou Art” is probably my favorite. For contemporary songs, I like “How Great is Our God” and “Mighty to Save”.

    Be Thou My Vision
    Ancient Irish hymn, possibly from the 8th Century, tr. by Mary E. Byrne

    Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
    Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
    Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
    Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
    2. Be Thou my Wisdom, Thou my true Word;
    I ever with Thee, Thou with me, Lord;
    Thou my great Father, I thy true son;
    Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

    3. Be Thou my battle-shield, sword for my fight,
    Be Thou my dignity, Thou my delight.
    Thou my soul’s shelter, Thou my high tower.
    Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.
    4. Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
    Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
    Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
    High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

    5. High King of heaven, my victory won,
    May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heav’ns Son!
    Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
    Still be my vision, O ruler of all.

    Not anyone song, but Hillsong music, for starters!

    My favorite (since childhood) is “In the Garden”. “…And He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own ;and the joy we share as we tarry there; none other has ever known.”

    It looks like I’m in good company with “Be thou my vision” and “It is well with my soul” I think one reason I like “it is well with my soul” so much is understanding that the author is penning this in the aftermath of loosing his entire family after the ship they were sailing on sank. In the midst of that tragedy his faith is amazing, and inspirational.
    Another more contemporary favorite would be El Shaddai. I will admit I get a bit misty listening to that one.
