What new year’s resolutions have you been able to keep so far and what do you think has helped you to persist?

Well, I smashed my scale like I said I would. It’s only by God’s grace that I was able to do that (though some motivating comments from FB friends certainly helped), and it’s also by His grace that I haven’t bought a replacement scale. But I’m really weak and I might give in, so it’s probably too early to say that I’m persisting with my goal of not being a slave to a scale. Ask me again in a couple of months =/
I also do this verse of the month thing, where I read the same verse/passage everyday for a month and spend time meditating and praying on it. I’ve been really good with that. It helps that my verse this month has to do with self-discipline. It also helps that I established the habit last year, so it’s not really a new resolution for me, just a continuance of an old one.
Lastly, I have resolved to develop healthy habits this year. Smashing the scale was an aspect of that. What I’m working on right now is trying to figure out breakfast. I’ve done okay on some days, but mostly it’s just an epic fail. I’m discouraged and am not sure that I can ever develop a breakfast habit, which stresses me out because my future children need to have healthy habits and that won’t happen if I can’t even figure out something as *simple* as breakfast. I can’t figure out what I’m supposed to eat, how much of it to eat, and when, exactly, in the morning to eat it. It doesn’t help that my favourite grocery store stopped selling my favourite soy yogurt. It’s complicated and frustrating, but I guess I’m still persisting in that I haven’t thrown in the towel yet. (I welcome any advice that anyone has to give me regarding breakfast, by the way.)

Well I’ve been trying to improve my devotional/prayer life – especially in the mornings… – things get rather messed up when I’m busy and over the holiday season. So I set a new rule that the computer does not go on till lunchtime or later. This has helped. We’ve also started a bible memorization group at church – and I’m really enjoying the challenge of memorizing and then meditating on those verses during the day. The discipline of devotions/prayer is definitely a lifelong challenge but also such a blessing!

Reading and praying the word, meditating and memorizing it. Knowing that this helps me overcome challenges that may come my way motivates me. The word in combination with prayer is a powerful tool.

I’ve actually never done new years resolutions because I’ve never seen them work for people. (Good reasoning, I know. I guess you could say I may as well not do a lot of things for the same reason…) Being a member at the Y (who actually goes regularly) always cracks me up – the first week of the year, it gets crazy busy… then within a week and a half, it’s back to the normal crowd. Anyway, overall my prayer this year is that I’ll be drawn into God more and spend more time in prayer. I keep realizing how powerfully God uses prayer and want to be a part of what He is doing!

One goal for the year is to read through the Bible. I started in mid-Dec and am still on track – even made it through Leviticus & Numbers w/o giving up

Well, on my last birthday I made a list of 30 goals to accomplish by the time I turn 30. So, I didn’t make any new resolutions this year. But, I have started on one of my harder goals from 30X30. I am running a half marathon in March and have been working on getting into shape for that. I’ve got some good momentum going now and am beginning to see results. That helps in keeping me going, but I am also running the race with a team of about 30 people from my church so the community motivates me too. And mostly,I’m motivated because I am running for a ministry I love. It’s called As Our Own and they are working to end human trafficking in India.

I desire to memorize 2 Bible verses a week. So I aquired an accountability partner to keep me plugging away at the memorization.

I don’t usually complete resolutions that I set in the new year, but in 2010 I decided I’d do a 365 day photo blog. And I actually completed it! I really enjoyed it and learned a lot in my photography hobby. This year I decided to do it again. My main motivation for keeping on is my friends who remind me if I don’t post a picture on my blog everyday.
