Good for a laugh?

Who makes you laugh?

Our family “pun” wars. The rules are simple. Must start spontaneously and the category must stay intact, then all puns must follow in the general line of the conversation we were having.

ie: teasing some Myers that their name was spelled wrong. (It’s really Meyers). So the dad said, well it all means “mud”, we are all dirt. Pun one: “out of the Mirey clay” and thus began a pun war on the name Meyer. I ad mired them for playing along.

LOL: to answer the question more on target: my family.
ie: Amanda (onlysixcamels) came and jumped on my bed this morning to wake me up. Kept jumping up n down and acting like she was 5 again.

Andrew 17 today, talking in a British falsetto about silly girls:
“I haven’t got 2 brain cells to rub together. Well mom guess you still have to like those girls cuz God made them”.

Andrew: (talking about his sisters first degree). Opera is like the Indy 500 of musical genres. It’s long, boring and sometimes screeching is involved. ” LOL

Husband…trying to be humorous makes us all laugh. He is such a good sport.

Hilarious. Mrs. M, if they turned your family into a TV sitcom, I would watch every week!

Inside jokes are my favorite. I like making side jokes that only a few people in the group understand, and other people look at them funny when they laugh.

One example: I was in a senior-year men’s Bible study in college, and the chaplain told us we were discussing what things we ought know/do before we get engaged to a woman. I nodded my head and said, “Ah, yes, the Rules of Engagement.”

One friend of mine laughed violently for about ten seconds, and another expressed disdain for the joke, but the rest of the group had no idea what I was talking about. (Hint: you have to have military knowledge to understand it. Or have seen the movie.)

my good friend Teresa, who tells stories about the kids she teaches – we’ve told her numerous times that she ought to do stand-up comedy – you should hear and watch her tell about the little girl with Down syndrome who “swallowed” her imaginary cell phone so that Teacher Teresa couldn’t take it from her; then regurgitated it when she needed it again (to call her grandfather, Da, and tell on Teacher Teresa)

Bill Cosby’s comedy routines and The Cosby Show (remember the episode about the men’s giving birth to really large items?)

Bill Engvall – I laugh at his videos so hard that I almost give myself hernias!!

    Jeff Foxworthy

Frank Caliendo, especially when he gets on a roll about Madden’s obsession w/ Brett Farve

Victor Borgia – look up his “Inflationary Language” video on YouTube – hysterical! (and clean!!)

A friend of mine introduced me to Mark Gungor, who is a pastor who gives sound marital advice in a humorous manner. I highly recommend!

A YouTube search will get you all kinds of funny and helpful videos from him. He has a DVD called “Laugh Your Way to a Good Marriage.”

@AndreaElena – yes, Victor Borge is awesome. “I nined the elevenderloin with my fivek.” :)

I, too, find small children and family to be the greatest source of laughter to me. For example, in-jokes that usually involve something mistakenly funny my dad said (e.g. “Front-to-Back” instead of “Face/Off”) or funny things my niece and nephews say (e.g. My mom tells her granddaughter: “I want to be around to tickle your babies.” The 5-year-old replies: “I don’t think you’re gonna make it!”).

We also have a quick wit and talent for remembering movie and TV lines, which usually means that when I’m NOT around family, I get a lot of blank stares. lol

I’ll laugh at almost anything eventually, but I like inside jokes best. Some of my co-workers and I will share a goofy video over the internet and then come in quoting parts of it back and forth and laughing our heads off while the rest of my co workers will raise their eyebrows at us, not sure if they want in on the joke or not. We can quote the literal version of “Total eclipse of the heart” end to end, several Brian Regan sketches, several SNL sketches, and various parts of the Twilight joke commentary. They’re fans and I’m not, but we all love to make fun of it.

When my mother, my aunt, my sister and I can get together in the same room, the inside jokes are particularly bad because we all think alike. We can make almost anything funny and if you enter the room at the wrong time after we’ve been at it, we’ll just start laughing randomly at something we could never possibly explain. It’s bad.

    My sister. She’s hilarious.

And anyone with dry humor. I love the type of people who you want to stand in the back of the room with and listen to them mutter under their breath.

Everyone! Well, nearly. I find everyday life to be very full of humor. My nieces and nephews and the silly things they do are a common sources of laughter. As I talk to myself, I even make myself laugh. (which maybe I should be concerned about…)

Words make me laugh a lot – puns, definitions, quotes from songs and movies…

Improv Everywhere is my favorite online source of laughter.

Anytime I’m with my siblings will also be full of laughter. They are all kooky and ticklish, so there’s always a reason to laugh.

I work at an elementary school, so kids make me laugh every day! On Friday, an adorable 1st grade girl turned to the boy sitting next to her and gushed happily, “Don’t you love the word ’sticky’? It’s so much fun to say! Stickystickystickystickysticky!” It made me laugh and then inspired me to write a poem about it. Can’t wait to take it to school tomorrow and read it to her!

  15. Nate said the following on March 15, 2010 at 3:57 pm

    @Jen7707 that’s hilarious!

Most people and types of humor get stale eventually, but kids perpetually crack me up. Kids just have that fresh, surreal sense of the world.

My cousin’s son always says stuff like that. He’ll get my attention by saying, “Nate, Nate, Nate,” and when I respond with, “What?”, he’ll say, “I don’t know.”

Another good one is when he’s near the cat’s litter box. He’ll make a point of saying, “Nate, it stinks in here!”

Or he and his brother think they can do, or out-do, anything. If it’s too cold outside, they’ll say, “It’s not too cold for me.” If their soup is too hot, they’ll say, “It’s not too hot for me.” Or, playing basketball with an elevated rim, they’ll say, “It’s not too high for me.”

Someone who got me laughing recently was Hugh Laurie in Jeeves and Wooster, my Mum can’t stand that show but I think it can be terribly funny! My dog made me laugh today aswell, as he was being silly and insisted on “helping” me tie my shoes! :) My family and I get to laughing alot aswell, my brother can be especially witty at times. :) His facebook statue awhile back stated that he could drive a golf ball further then Tiger Woods could drive his Escalade! :) aahh I love it!

Does this mean ‘everything’ is not funny?:D
As the laugh lines on my face can attest, I love to laugh.

Lira and her sister make me laugh.
Their little brother has begun to make me laugh. A most pleasant surprise.
My husband regularly charms me with his outlandish puns.

I don’t understand much American humour, not funny when it has to be explained, although the attempts of someone trying to make it clear to me can be quite amusing.

Psalm 67~too clever by half on the Rules of Engagement.

    JamieLee~ Hugh Laurie not amusing?!?
Feel free to visit and we will have a Jeeves and Wooster marathon.
That is if those dvds aren’t Lira’s property, in which case we will invite ourselves to visit her.
