If you live where it’s winter now, do you like the amount of snow you’ve seen this year?

Absolutely not. I would love to actually have snow! All of you in snow-laden places can feel free to send some my way.

No, it’s been rather pathetic here for most of the winter. It disappoints me; I love snow.

We’ve had more snow this year than we’ve had in a few years, and though it’s pretty in its drifts upon the hills, I heartily dislike driving in it, be it the icy or the slushy kind. Staying off the roads on a workday means taking a vacation day.

We have a good amount here in northern IL and we went sledding last weekend, which was fun but much more work then I remember from going sledding as a kid. It was really fun though! I do love snow and think it makes everything, even the weeds look pretty! One of my friends is from Australia and she saw snow for the first time in December and it was hilarious! She went nuts!! It was great fun!

I live in western NY, whose various cities rank in the top 15 snowiest places in the continental US, due to the Great Lakes positioned to the north and east. While we do get a lot of snow, we don’t get to keep it all, because it melts every so often through the winter. I’ve lived here my whole life, so I’m quite accustomed to it. My college has only had one snow day in the past six years. (We’re fond of poking fun at the southern states where they don’t know how to drive in the snow they occasionally get. Really, it’s not a problem to go 55 while it’s snowing…)

I’m glad that we got more than usual, even if it was only 3 days of light snow. I could definitely go for some more, though! We tend to get freezing rain when everyone else gets the pretty white stuff.
@Tim – I live in one of those southern states and it is kinda crazy! I’ve never driven with snow on the roads and don’t know if my car is properly equipped to handle it. I’m hoping for good public transportation if I move somewhere that it does snow; that or someone to teach me how to drive in it! My whole school was really disappointed that our administration didn’t give us snow days when there actually was snow this year. We all wanted to take advantage of the chance to play in it for once!

We’ve actually gotten a good amount this year in Indiana, though I wish it had been here in time for a white Christmas. Fortunately when the heavy snow came in earlier this month, people were being cautious on the roads. (They tend to forget during the summer months how deceptively treacherous it is to drive in that kind of weather!) It’s all melting away now though. Kinda sad – though I’m happy that it’s finally warmer out!

I’m in northern CA. It’s been a warmer winter than normal, so its been more rain than snow so far (at least at my elevation). But the higher ski slopes have gotten a lot more snow, which is great!

This winter hasn’t come with a lot of snow, or at least, not as much as I’m used to. I can appreciate that our southern Ontario winter really didn’t begin until December (normally it comes far too early for my liking ) but I do like to have some snow. I’m happy today though because it’s storming out. It’s kinda funny how cold and snowy weather can make you feel cozy inside.

Tim,
It’s not when the snow is falling that’s the problem (unless the wind is whipping such that visibility is greatly decreased). It’s when any ice melt or rainwater freezes on the ground. Some of us Southern drivers are careful; others are reckess; still others are so overly cautious but yet do not give any signal as to what they’re doing that they cause accidents that way. Plus, since we so rarely get snow & ice worth dealing with, our government agencies can’t seem to get the hang of keeping enough salt on hand and distributing it in time.
I have stayed at home twice this winter not because main roads were icy but because the mgt @ my apt complex doesn’t salt the parking lot. (Yet another among the myriad reasons for me to move!)
I find it nervewracking to deal with icy conditions. (It once two my roommate and me almost 5 hours to get home. That was 7 to 8 years ago. That’s how rare these nasty ice storms are here. But when they come, they’re doozies!) I’d rather not have that stress — especially since that kind of stress sends this diabetic’s blood sugars out of whack. Ya learn to pick your battles.

We have received an unprecedented amount of snow this year living in the DMV(area surrounding the nation’s capital). The consistently cold temps have led us to act with hopeful anticipation if we experience any temperatures above freezing without blustery winds and ice. But the snow was great, and it definitely did help in giving me some much needed rest from work!

I also live in the DC area. We had well over 3 feet within a week and that is huge for us. Normally, we might get about a foot every 7 years or so (the last major snow was in 2003). So we’ve been freaking out a little bit despite how much fun its been.

I live in southern MN and we’ve had one of the snowiest winters since my childhood!
I don’t mind the snow, as long as it doesn’t interrupt my plans – and it’s been doing a lot of that this winter. (A bit frustrating.) The piles of snow in the boulevards are now taller than me, which make driving a bit more dangerous.
On the other hand, I’ve been getting outside to ski, snowshoe, skate and sled – all impossible without snow.
I’d rather make the most of winter than complain about it. (Though I think most Minnesotans have complained at one point or another this winter…)
I am looking forward to spring!
