City or country

Which energizes you most–the city or the country?

Definitely the city. The sound of the cars, people, and activities is always exciting. However, the country is always relaxing.

Smallish city – I think Nashville is the perfect size. :) I live in the suburbs but am not far from the “action” that we have. Downtown has some energy but not so much that it’s crazy-scary or frenetic. It’s a good happy medium. :D

The country is nice for relaxing… as long as someone else is mucking out all of the animals’ homes. Bring on that country-style breakfast smorgasbord. (Or… let’s go to Cracker Barrel!)

I have to agree with joefrancis. The city has great energy, there’s always something going on. I lived in center city Philadelphia for a year and loved that aspect of it.

The country is great too, but I find it more relaxing.

Definitely the country. The city is great to visit, but I’d be happy sittin’ in my porch swing listening to the birds sing, sippin’ lemonade.

A nice country home on acres of land with critters all around.

Right now- I’m stuck in the middle (urban/suburban)

@AndreaElena- I’ll even take mucking out all of the animal’s homes : -)

I’m definitely a city mouse. I love the hum of traffic, getting lost in a crowd, the fast pace, museums, opera, zoos, huge varieties of food offered, etc. Sure, there are downsides to living in or near a city, but I’ve found that I am much happier with a large amount of people around me.

I would say the city is energizing in the fast-paced sense, but the country is energizing in the rejuvinating sense. I would love to be able to live out in the country yet close enough to a city to still be able to take advantage of all that a big municipality has to offer.

The City is definitely more energizing and the country more relaxing, but I prefer my mid-size town (pop. ~25,000) to either. The country is a few minutes away and the Cities are less than an hour away. I could probably get used to living in a big city or out in the country, though.

I am a city girl, but I am more of a country girl at heart. The country is much more energizing. The city often makes me tired and nervous. I love the big city in small doses. The country is more energizing because it is slower paced and I can really savor life. In the city it’s always go, go, go.

the city energizes me for sure! well…where i live i can go for a hike, or out to the bay and then come back and have lunch at a great cafe! just 15 minutes away. i love my home! the country/woods/what have you is where i rest and retreat.

Country all the way. Open spaces (but not flat like the prairie), fresh air, birds singing, brooks bubbling. The country invigorates me so much because there is so much to see and explore, so many details, sounds, textures… all made by God. Plus, when I’m in the country, it’s usually because I’m on vacation or taking a down day, and some how, all that slowing down is very energizing.

I would probably have to say the country.
Cities can be interesting to visit, but I find wide open spaces the most inspirational. Concrete, most buildings, dealing with traffic, and parking spaces isn’t all that energizing. But changes of pace and variety are nice once in a while.

I don’t think I could say one over the other. Actually, I’m a fan of the suburbs! Haha!! I like the beauty and open space of the country. I am a Texas gal, so “room” is important to me. However, there are some culture aspects of cities that I enjoy as well. Huge cities can be a little rough though. I’m not a fan of NYC or New Orleans at all, but I enjoy places like Austin, Seattle, and Nashville.
For my hobbies, I like the country for riding my bike, but only if people keep their dogs in their yards!!

I had my choice, I think a log cabin in the mountains would be the BEST!

Definitely the country or small-town feel. The big city makes me nervous and frustrated. I like to be able to see the sky in large amounts, not small blocks. The pace of life is much slower out of the city, and that provides me with more energy and pleasure in life than the fast pace of the city.

I am a Philly girl to the core, however I have a greater appreciation for the south than I had in my youth and could absolutely see myself living there. Especially after watching an episode of Paula on Food Network….brings my southern roots right out:)

The country gives me a “wide open space” exhilaration, especially when driving through scenic views, mountains, or by the ocean. The city usually gives me an adrenaline rush with the fast paced traffic and pressure to figure out where I’m going in the midst of one way streets and crazy drivers. :)

There are awesome things about both! I’m moving from a town of 3,000 (where I was born and raised) to a town of 1 million+… it should be a grand adventure! :)

  17. anewthing said the following on February 10, 2010 at 8:30 pm

I’m energized by both in different ways. If I had my way, I’d live 6 months in the city and the rest in the country. I currently live in a coastal community. The ocean provides all the serenity I need for now.

I always thought I wanted to live out in the country if I had kids because I lived the rural life for a couple of years as a kid. I don’t know though…

Hm. That’s hard. My family currently lives out in the country about 5-10 mins outside of a moderate-sized town/city of 50,000. It’s a nice situation – far enough out that is it quiet and you can have some land, but close enough to things to be convenient. Unfortunately, the city is a bit lacking in some things itself.
At least at this point in my life I would like to be near a larger city. I miss having the opportunity to enjoy the arts and being exposed to the wide range of people and cultural backgrounds that tend to come together in larger cities. So I would probably lean more toward the city.

I like both, although the city has more of a draw for me because of the fact that I can get around by my self. I just moved back home from Spokane WA and I really liked it out there, it was just the right size aswell. :) My family lives out in the country and you can’t beat sitting outside on a summer evening and listen to all the summer sounds. Its great!

Now that I live in CO, I think of this more in terms of “city” and “mountains” because our country towns – at least the ones I like – are all in the mountains. The mountains have a different feel altogether, and some of the people who live there are addicted to climbing and hiking like I am, so I “get” that. I don’t know if I can say I categorically enjoy the mountains (country) more than the city – I do like both – but if I had to choose one to live in forever, it would definitely be the mountains. Probably at the foot of the Eiger in the Alps. :) …or elsewhere in the Alps could be nice, too. I think I need a second income to afford a little chalet there…maybe I should get on that…

Definitely the city… I use to live in NY City and loved it!! I now live in Denver and I also love it here ;)

I love San Diego, because you can easily spend the day relaxing and hiking around in the countryside and end it with a glitzy night on the town – both are just a short drive away. :)

After growing up in north central FL and then living the past few years in DC I would say that I have a healthy apprciation for both the city and the country. Personally I miss the space of my parents property in FL and seeing the awesomeness of Rockies, but living in DC has shown me how cool it can be to be in a place full of culture, sights, and happenings…

The country, for sure.. I moved out here, on the verge of it, after many decades in the city, and I don’t regret it.. what I love most is the simple life that people live here, and it shows in their actions, as well as how the talk etc.. SO refreshing.. I used to do like those in the urban areas around here do, urban lesure flight is what i call it.. when any real chunk of time came up, flee to the hills (real, vertical, mountains here actually!! Love it!).

Country all the way. City makes me stressed.

  26. Beren_the_Adan said the following on February 13, 2010 at 8:26 am

I would have to say country… ;-) There is too much noise, polution, cement, etc. in the city to get energized… ;-)

  27. elisa said the following on February 14, 2010 at 5:13 pm

Most definitely the country! Having been born and raised on a small farm, there is no place I would rather be. I feel so close to God when I am surrounded by the natural beauty of prairie grass blowing in the wind, or cows grazing on pasture, or the awesomeness of watching a thunderstorm roll in on the horizon. I pray that the Lord finds it in his will to bring me a man who feels the same way.
